Fusion of Japanese and Chinese Aesthetics

This 13th-century work depicts Fugen Bosatsu and the Ten Rasetsunyo, along with Kishimojin and other deities. Fugen Bosatsu is a bodhisattva associated with mental stability and the protection of devotees of the Lotus Sutra. The Ten Rasetsunyo are female demon deities who, having converted to Buddhism, now serve as its protectors. Fugen Bosatsu is shown in the Chinese Song style, while the Ten Rasetsunyo and Kishimojin wear traditional Japanese twelve-layered kimono.
