This artwork depicts Tenkeisei, who exterminates evil spirits that bring harm and illness. Originating in Taoism as a star god who administers heavenly punishment, Tenkeisei was later venerated in both Onmyōdō and Esoteric Buddhism. In this scene, he is shown eating plague demons soaked in vinegar. In his first right hand, he holds the half-eaten upper body of a demon, while his second left hand grips the ankles of Gozu Tennō, who is suspended upside down.
