Nelson of the East
Tōgō Heihachirō was born into a samurai family of the Satsuma Domain. He fought in the Anglo-Satsuma War and served as a crew member aboard warships during the Boshin War. Following the Meiji Restoration, he studied in Britain and pursued a career as a naval officer. He is best known for leading Japan to victory in the Battle of Tsushima during the Russo-Japanese War, earning the nickname "Nelson of the East."
