Refined Armor of the Samurai

The Dōmaru is a type of armor that first appeared in the mid-Heian period. Initially worn primarily by lower-ranking samurai and lightly armored foot soldiers, it was later adopted by high-ranking warriors as well. This particular piece features a richly colored design, with black-lacquered leather dyed in indigo and small plates laced together with white and crimson threads. The helmet is adorned with "Kuwagata" and a "Sanko sword," a symbol believed to ward off evil.
